2019 Audi A6 Trim Levels w/ Configurations & Comparison (2023)

What 2019 Audi A6 Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

Chic, contemporary, and totally luxurious, the fully redesigned 2019 Audi A6 has a lot of great things all rolled into one package. This midsize luxury sedan has been in production for five generations now, and it could not be more different from its original 1994 introductory version. In that time, Audi has worked to perfect the A6 and hasn't taken their focus off this sedan despite the booming demand for SUVs and crossovers.

There are three trim levels available with the 2019 Audi A6: the Premium, Premium Plus, and the Prestige. All three are powered by the same A6 55 TFSI (3.0T) engine. This turbo-charged V6 engine is able to produce 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. A 7-speed dual clutch transmission comes paired with it, and all-wheel drive (which Audi refers to as their Quattro system) comes standard. The A6 also has a 48-volt mild hybrid set-up that has a few functions, including brief engine shutoff while on the highway and automatic start-stop.

The trim you choose will likely boil down to how much you are willing to spend on all the bells and whistles. The base trim will probably suit quite a few people, but a few will likely crave all the trappings of the line-topping Prestige trim. But what about the Premium Plus? Which one of these three trim levels offers the best overall deal?

Since you deserve to know what you could be buying into, here's the run-down on the 2019 Audi A6's three trim levels. By the end of this comparison review, you should have a clearer idea of which trim - if any - is the right fit for you.

Compare the 2019 Audi A6 Premium vs Premium Plus Trims. What is the difference?

Audi's base trim on the A6 is known as the Premium. Like the two higher trim levels in this line-up, it comes with the same mechanical features: a 3.0-L turbocharged V6 engine, the 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and all-wheel drive. Now, let us take a look at what makes these two trim levels different from one another.

In terms of infotainment technology, both the Premium and Premium Plus are considerably well-stocked. The Premium comes with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen display, MMI navigation with built-in voice control features, the MMI touch-response system with an 8.8-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower display, a 6-month subscription to Audi connect PLUS and PRIME services, and Audi connect CARE assistance. There is also a 10-speaker sound system with 180 watts and a 6-channel amplifier. A 90-day trial to SiriusXM Satellite Radio gets included, as does HD Radio, smartphone app integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and two USB ports up front that allow both charging and data and two charging-only USB ports for the rear seats. The Premium Plus steps it up by adding the Audi virtual cockpit (complete with a huge 12.3-inch touchscreen display), an upgraded navigation system, bigger center displays for the MMI touch system, and an impressive 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System with 705 watts and a 15-channel amplifier. There are also a wireless charger and signal booster that get added.

The Premium also has quite a few standard driver assistance features, such as Audi pre sense basic and front, automatic windshield wipers and headlights that sense light and rain, Audi drive select, cruise control, and parking sensors for the front and rear. The Premium Plus takes all of that and adds an advanced key system (which consists of keyless entry, stop, and start and a hands-free trunk release) and the Audi side assist system with pre sense rear. A 360-degree surround view camera gets swapped in for the standard rearview camera that comes on the Premium. Other standard safety features on both trim levels include an electromechanical parking brake and electronic stability control with traction control, brake assist, and Offroad mode. There is also an indirect tire pressure monitoring system that comes equipped on the Premium and Premium Plus trims.

On the outside, both the Premium and Premium Plus have a Singleframe grille slapped on the front fascia and ride atop 19-inch 5-double-spoke bi-color wheels. They also both have front and rear LED turn signals, a panoramic sunroof, an anti-theft alarm system with an engine immobilizer, and aluminum optic trim surrounding the side windows. Audi does give the Premium Plus upgrades to the LED taillights (which have animation), high-beam assist on the Matrix-designed headlights, and side mirrors that are power-folding, automatically-dimming, and heated. Headlight washers also get added for extra convenience.

As far as the cabins' designs go, the Premium and Premium Plus only have one real difference: The contrast stitching gets extended to the knee bolster and armrests inside of the Premium Plus. Otherwise, expect to find the same leather seats, wooden upper inlays, power tilt-and-telescoping steering column with memory functions, tri-zone automatic climate control, shift paddles on the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, glass that is heat-insulated, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, and S line illuminated door sill inlays.

Now, as far as packages go, you get quite a few options with both trim levels. On the Premium, you can opt for the Convenience Package (which comes highly recommended), the Cold Weather Package, and the 20-Inch Wheel Package. The Convenience Package consists of the Audi phone box, advanced key system, power-adjustable/heated/auto-dimming side mirrors with built-in memory functions, and Audi side assist with pre assist rear. The Cold Weather Package gives you a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. The 20-Inch Wheel Package upgrades you to 20-inch bi-color wheels with all-season tires and an addition of a 20mm drop sport-tuned suspension.

On the Premium Plus, you can get the Cold Weather Package, 20-Inch Wheel Package, Warm Weather Package (which has ventilated front seats and four-zone climate control), Individual Contour Seating Package, and the Driver Assistance Package. The Individual Contour Seating Package has upgraded Valcona leather upholstery and 18-way power-adjustable comfort seats with heating and ventilation. The Driver Assistance Packages gives the car adaptive cruise assist, intersection assist, traffic sign recognition, and active lane assist. Also, both trims get stand-alone options like a black cloth liner, rear side airbags, a CD/DVD player, and gray/brown fine ash wood inlays.

Compare the 2019 A6 Premium Plus vs Prestige Trims. What is the difference?

Here is where the luxury really gets dialed up a few notches. The line-topping Prestige trim has just about everything you could ask for in a mid-size luxury sedan. Audi packs it with all of the infotainment and driver assistance features you get on the Premium Plus and adds a head-up display that shows you data on the vehicle's assistance systems and navigation.

On the exterior of the Prestige, you get upgraded HD Matrix-design headlights that have dynamic daytime running lights built in and, of course, high-beam assist. You also get a power open and close feature for the trunk and power soft-closing doors for the front and rear.

The interior of the Prestige also gets a few great upgrades, including the four-zone climate control system, multi-colored ambient lighting throughout the cabin, 12-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with four-way power lumbar support, dual pane acoustic glass, and sunshades for the rear.

As far as packages go, you can still get the Cold Weather, 20-Inch Wheel, Individual Contour Seating, and Driver Assistance Packages that are optional on the Premium Plus. The Prestige gives you a few more choices, however, in that you also get a 21-Inch Wheel Package and Adaptive Chassis Package as options. The 21-Inch Wheel Package upgrades your wheels to 21-inch 10-Y-spoke wheels set in silver, and performance tires come with them. The Adaptive Chassis Package gives the Prestige an adaptive damping suspension and dynamic all-wheel steering system. Other stand-alone options include a Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced audio system with a grand total of 19 speakers and anight vision assist feature that helps to detect pedestrians and animals when you are driving after dark.

Which Trim Level to Choose?

All three trim levels on the 2019 Audi A6 are reasonably solid performers. The standard powertrain and Quattro all-wheel drive system provide plenty of power to the A6. Of course, these are luxury vehicles, so your biggest issue will likely be staying within your budget. While the Premium trim level has a starting MSRP of $58,900, the Prestige's price tag can soar to over $67,100. And, to be quite honest, you do not get enough extra and unique features or additional boosts in power to justify that cost.

That is why the mid-level trim, the Premium Plus, is our pick for the best overall deal. It has more standard (and very desirable) options than the Premium but will not gouge your pockets like the Prestige trim. There are plenty of options that can help you customize the Premium Plus to your liking, but you will not need to add too many of them to have this trim level meet your needs if you consider yourself to be the average driver.
