Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring a General Maintenance Technician to join the Facilities Management team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, a general building maintenance technician performs a variety of routine and skilled maintenance and repair tasks on campus facilities and infrastructure across multiple trades utilizing power and hand tools.Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of general building systems.Duties include routine plumbing repairs such as unplugging toilets and drains, replacing plumbing fixtures, routine electrical repairs such as replacing receptacles, replacing light bulbs, light fixtures, performing routing carpentry work such as installing doors, door hardware, door closers, door stops, cleaning and sealing roofs, gutters, clearing downspouts, making roof repairs, building and installing window screens, installing appliances such as refrigerators and ranges,Changing HVAC filters, performing drywall repairs and painting, installing ceiling tile and grid, flooring and floor covering repairs and replacement,and hanging white boards, TV monitors, pictures and bulletin boards.Preparing classrooms for classes.Preparing residence halls for occupancy.All work completed in accordance with all applicable safety standards.Facilitate periodic preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.Assist in various special event set-ups and breakdown and snow and ice removal during the winter months.
Job Functions:
Performs installation, maintenance and repairs relating to all systems within the building facilities and campus infrastructure. Responds to assigned work orders in a timely manner, ensures job is completed to the campus standard and closes the work order out through the iPad linked to the CMMS system.
Operates a university vehicle and is responsible for its safe operation and reporting any observed maintenance needs.
Assists with Campus “Special Events” support of event tables and chairs setup and breakdown.
Assists with campus office moves.
Assists with facilities management warehouse and pole barn area clean up.
Responds to college emergencies and closures including adverse weather including snow and ice removal, systems equipment checks and startup operations as required.

Qualifications
Read and comprehend instructions, write information, and complete simple forms.
High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.
Skills, knowledge, abilities:
One to three years of experience in general building or facilities maintenance or in the building trades to perform the duties assigned to this position and skilled in proper and safe use of tools, materials and equipment common to the trade.
Principles of carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical work.
Principles of heating, ventilation and cooling systems.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Valid Arizona Driver’s License and clean MVD driving record and the ability to operate campus vehicles and equipment in a safe, responsible manner
Ability to use computer tablet to input work order service details in to the CMMS system
Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing between 50-80 pounds
Ability to remain awake and alert throughout the assigned work shift
Climb ladders at 12’ minimum, operate man lift to heights of 30’ and climb extension ladders
Comply with job related OSHA standards
Knowledgeable in the proper operation of equipment, hand tools, power tools related to construction and ability to operate them.
Operate small and/or large power driven equipment and tools related to construction
Be able to walk over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces
Be able to work in a variety of weather conditions while performing work.
Ability to work independently.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to carry a two-way radio and wear earpiece to maintain contact with the Department Administration, to call in and report any problems and to receive messages.
