We often expect friendship to bring us a deeper, richer, and more fulfilling connection than the one we’d get if we only followed more basic legal laws. This can only go as far as people involved understand and follow the moral agreement between them. While if one of the ‘friends’ denies either component, the friendship might be reversed and become a burden or a damaging force for the people involved. In other words, become less of a friendship or not even a friendship at all, as happened to this Redditor, who found himself in a risky situation like this.

I'd say him backing out in support of his partner and relationship is a huge sign of commitment. And Vicky needs to haul her a**e out of the 1950s and realise in this day and age, marriage is not the ultimate sign of commitment. OP and Mary should still try to take time off that weekend and have an amazing date weekend celebrating them.

Even in the 50's, if someone was in a long-time "dating" relationship, you invited them with a +1. In fact, it has always been considered rude to invite single people, and not allow them to bring a guest.

Let's be honest, it doesn't sound like a party worth going to. Besides, if you are planning a celebration that's so out of reach you can't invite your neighbour's partner will break the budger, you can't afford the event you're planning. That being said, it sound alike Vicky just doesnt like the OP and is trying to force him out. Make up weird rules, and when that doesn't work insult his life choices. She doesn't want him around - maybe she's isolating the new husband from friends, maybe she just hates this guy, but she's doing her best to drive a wedge.

Vicky is trying to force an issue in the relationship she went out of her way in the follow up call to ensure her real feelings about it were aired. She is manipulative and Brad needs to run...fast and far.
