Something that makes Monster Hunter Rise one of the best Nintendo Switch games is that it provides several different fighting options to match a number of player styles. What's more, there are unique attacks depending on which weapon you choose.

There are 14 weapon types in all, so you might want to test the others out to see which one works best with your fighting style. But enough chit-chat. Let's dive into the Hunting Horn.

The Hunting Horn is a great support weapon as it quickly allows the player to buff themselves and allies. However, the actual attacks aren't very powerful compared to other weapons.

  • Perform: Increase your own power by Performing Melodies.
  • Activate Melody via Attack: Attack and line up 2 of the same note in a row on the Musical Staff to cover you and nearby allies with a melody effect.
  • Magnificent Trio: Attack and line up 3 different notes on the Musical Staff to store a melody. Unleash a Magnificent Trio to trigger all melody effects.
  • Infernal Melody: After filling the gauge next to the musical score by performing actions such as attacking, you can activate the special melody. Press ZR after a Magnificent Trio or a Slide Beat to do so.
  • Slide Beat: A Silkbind attack that uses a Wirebug to propel you forward into a spinning attack. Grants self-improvement and attack-power boosts by way of melody effects.
  • Earthshaker: A Silkbind attack that flings forth a blade, connects it to your weapon with Ironsilk, and transmits booming sonic attacks (Costs 2 Wirebug).

Melody Effects

  • Self Improvements — Increases movement speed and prevents attacks from getting deflected for a short amount of time.
  • Attack Up — Boost your attack temporarily.
  • Defense Up — Boosts your defense temporarily.
  • Health Recovery (S) — A sliver of health gets restored to you.
  • Song of Raging Flame — Your attack gets boosted a decent amount for a while.

Monster Hunter Rise Hunting Horn Switch Skills

Each weapon has its own unique attacks. What's more, each attack has at least two Switch Skills that you can assign to it for a different result. However, only one Switch Skill can be active on an attack at a time. Here are the Hunting Horn Switch Skills.

Silkbind AttackEarthshaker: Ironsilk attaches to a blade and attacks a monster. The horn sends sonic waves into the area around the blade.
Bead of Resonance: A Wirebug cocoon is placed on the ground. Any melodies created by the hunter also come from the cocoon.
Regular Attack 1Overhead Smash: Hunting Horn comes smashing down and reduces a monster's stamina.
Melodic Slap: Creates a Sonic Smash with the Hunting Horn that does low damage but can stun.
Regular Attack 2Melody Mode: Performance: Attack that creates a melody effect when two of the same notes are played in a row.
Melody Mode: Echo: Applies melody effects with the Musical Staff and boosts your own stats.

Horn MaestroThis skill increases the Hunting Horn's speed and damage output.
Attack BoostAs you'd guess, this increases the Hunting Horn's attack. You'll be happiest if you get it to level 4 or higher.
Weakness ExploitIncreases the amount of damage inflicted on Monsters due to exploiting their weaknesses.
Razor SharpMakes it so that your Hunting Horn doesn't lose sharpness as quickly. Yes, you do need this for the musical instrument.
