Ok time for another update! We start heading southwest towards Olivine city and get ambushed on the way
PLEASE DONT FIGHT ME
its ok he just gave us a steel plate, which would have been more useful last attempt
Jean takes out the trainers on this route with little incident. She's finally getting close to evolution!!
which is a good thing, because she's starting to fall behind stats-wise. She almost goes down against a psyduck of all things here.
We bump into Baoba near the miltank farm, and he tells us he will give us a ring when the safari zone is open. cool!
we have some pretty poor conversation on the miltank farm. they're not very intelligent, but they are pretty cute.
this will definitely be very nice for an encounter we hope to get later
Cecil is just so dang good. He sweeps through the cowboys and girls on this route with no trouble at all.
no encounters here for like the fifth route in a row. rip.
PLEASE DON@T FIGHT ME
I always struggle to talk to these moving guys behind the bar
hi volkner thanks for the TM
when I was a kid this bit took me forever, I never knew you could jump out the window until my neighbour told me
another team shot thanks to bestie cameron the photographer
Amphy is so cute
off to cianwood to get some medicine!! Jean loves the watery route
usually im not a fan of fighting pokemon trainers but this one gave me a choice band so hes not so bad
i cannot look after your shuckle because it is not psychic enough. also how wild is it that Silver takes this guys pokemon??
we are getting so many good pictures lately
I know if i go near suicine Eusine fights me here and I don't wanna risk it so Suicune will stay here forever
after taking out a couple of gym trainers Jean finally gets there and we have a Slowbro!! very excited to have a bulky water type on the team, although I wish he could have regenerator in gen 4
I turn his waterfall off and then leave the gym to train to the level cap. Never let them know your next move
all trained up and ready to go!
JEAN GETS SO HAPPY NEAR WATER ITS SO CUTE
smartest fighting type user
the plan here is to dent the enemy team as much as possible with choice band zen headbutts from Jean. This primeape just spams substitutes though, meaning if we miss a zen headbutt we will get nailed with a focus punch
but we land them all until he's on a quarter health, where he hits with a thunderpunch and of course paralyses
Chuck brings out Breloom, who hits us scarily hard with a technician bullet seed, but we are mercifully left on 2hp. I really deserved to lose Jean for not switching here, I'm just so glad she survived. She does get fully paralysed so we can't even get off an attack.
we switch to Michel who takes a bullet seed brilliantly and oneshots this Breloom with an air cutter
Chuck brings in Poliwrath and an extrasensory gets him low, before he heals with a sitrus berry and hits us with hypnosis. I wish Michel could have magic bounce this gen.
so we switch in Cecil, who takes an Ice punch really well before taking Poliwrath out with a giga drain
Hitmonlee comes out and fake outs Cecil, but next turn he hits a sleep powder and then giga drains it to death
his brother hitmonchan meets the same fate. God Cecil I love you SO much
The Hariyama goes down just as easily. Very nice work Cecil, you were merely a backup in my plan for this fight but you really pulled it out of the bag
yes, you did. this guy has three brain cells. I kinda like him though.
I pretty good gym battle all things considered, but we knew this wouldn't be too bad as the only gym we have a strength over.
poor Jean. I should never have been so careless with you, I'm sorry :(
we say goodbye to air cutter at last here
and we finish the Amphy fetchquest quickly with Michel's help
I think Jean got a bit attached to Amphy in the process though
and here is Dray's team rocket addition to the hack. I'm grateful for the break between gym fights but terrified for the upcoming gauntlet of double battles
ok here we go. the game is pretty much a boss rush for the next few hours, and so many of them are double battles. I'm so afraid
please help me not lose pokemon here Mira
Ok the plan for this battle is spam metronome surfs with Trelawney. This is what she does best.
very solid first turn
very solid second turn
We both use psybeam here and take out the last two. Very good first double battle!
I very much appreciate this
time for double battle number two with Buck
Trelawney takes out Murkrow with thunderbolt while Umbreon does nothing
and then a surf takes out nidoqueen and did a little to Umbreon and Gloom
another psybeam deals with Gloom next turn and Umbreon does a little chip damage to Nuzleaf
i decide to try and get a more useful teammate so I use surf here, taking out Loudred
I thunderbolt Octillery next turn and Nuzleaf takes out the Umbreon
And the much ore useful Torkoal takes out the Nuzleaf next turn. Great work so far Trelawney!!
thank you Buck!!
I didn't get a screenshot before the battle started but here we fight Petrel
he leads with skuntank, who crits Houdini with a double edge and takes him out. Of everyone on the team, I can live with Houdini going down.
Trelawney comes in and starts doing what she does best
can you believe this thing didnt have a focus sash???
Another psybeam finishes the battle
a TM for toxic! this should be useful at some point.
Hello Blissey!!!
I'm grateful these double battles seem to start with unevolved pokemon
Cheryl gets me. Her Drifblim uses fly, dodging the surf I use to take out Gligar. Next turn Drifblim finishes fly and takes out Snover.
another surf takes out Gligar
The low health is scary, but this was from both enemies attacking Jean when she was already on half health. She's seriously bulky and I love it.
Another surf takes out Vibrava and does heavy damage to Persian, bringing in Fearow.
Next turn I switch to Michel. Drifblim hits Fearow with fly before going down to hail.
Michel takes out fearow with extrasensory and then Persian next turn. These double battles are so stressful I'm glad we are past the halfway point.
Marley and me take on the next two grunts
Sneasel oneshots the Noctowl with an ice punch and Cecil hits Electrode with giga drain
Sneasel hurts Venomoth and Cecil oneshots Graveler this turn, bringing out magneton. Oh, and Electrode switched out? which I feel like trainers never do. kinda fun.
next turn we sleep Magneton and Sneasel finishes the Venomoth
then sneasel hits misdreavus and we sleep him while hes down
sneasel kills misdreavus, the electrode comes back out and Cecil finishes it with a giga drain.
and we finish. thank god.
Now we have an Ariana fight jesus christ these boss battles never end
Michel oneshots arbok
we switch to trelawney on the honchkrow and take her out with thunderbolt
this vileplume takes a psybeam pretty well so we switch to Michel
who takes care of the vileplume once and for all
and then after a lot of lovely kiss sleep shenanigans Jean takes out the jynx. At least these rocket admins only have four pokemon.
bye bye
here outside the safari zone we can finally get another encounter!!
pretty cool right!!!
hmmm its weirdly empty here
ooh, yes please!!
oh sh*t
Riley comes to the rescue and we reschedule our battle to just outside the safari zone
we do a quick pc deposit heal and check out Nozomi while we're there. Having a Normal type will be suuuper useful for the immunity to ghost.
ok here we go. the big final battle
first turn I switch for fear of a bug type attack from scyther, and zangoose straight up kills Riley's absol with close combat. welp.
We dent the enemies pretty hard this turn. Ursaring seems to have scrappy which is cool
next turn Zangoose leaves Ursaring on what has to be 1hp before Michel takes it out with extrasensory and Ursaring takes scyther out with a shadow claw
next turn we switch to Jean and Ursaring goes down, bringing in Lucario
....but next turn Houndoom fire blasts Lucario, killing him and leaving us in a very unfortunate 2v1. This is very scary. Thankfully a surf hits both enemy pokemon quite hard, but im still very afraid
we switch to trelawney here, who finishes the job with a surf after dodging a fire blast
this would have been very scary if Trelawney didn't have thunderbol. Her high speed quickly turns this back into a 1v1.
and a surf finishes the job. Very impressed to have gotten through this rocket section with no deaths!!
we finally remember to put Houdini in the death box (poor guy he's even forgettable in death) and head int the safari zone. We say yes to Baoba
but we can't pass the test without catching a geodude, which is not a psychic type
and we finally get an abra in here!! thank god
Uri looks pretty promising too. Magic guard is super nice and Kadabra should be fast enough to offset the speed drop from quiet. It's just a shame you can't fully evolve into Kazam without a covenant orb, which you need to do an in-game trade to get.
Clearing out team rocket seems to have brought back the trainers for this route, so we clear through them while Uri holds an exp share so he can catch up a bit.
aaand he quickly evolves!
we also evolve seville
its so refreshing to have some new teammates!!
with everyone grinded up to the level cap, we are now ready for the final boss battle of this (very long) update against Jasmine. I decide to leave Michel behind because he just can't do much against Jasmine's mons
Oh Jasmine, I know more about the steel type than you would think... *thousand yard stare*
She leads Metang, and for some reason I decide fishing for defense drops with rock smash is the best way to go since Seville doesn't have any ground type attacks
But this battle of attrition seems to be going in Metang's favour, so I switch out to Cecil and sleep it while Jasmine
heals it up
we switch to Trelawney who kills it with surf. Maybe we should have just stuck to what we know
ouch magneton isn't great. I switch to Seville to make use of her imunity to electric and take a thunderbolt
I'm really not sure what I was thinking here. I think i was nervous because thunderbolt is not good for my team, but I really should have switched to Cecil here. Maybe in the moment I thought it only had thunderbolt? I'm not sure, but even a lucky crit can't save Seville from being punished for my silly mistake. I'm sorry, Seville. You deserved a better trainer.
Trelawney comes in and does what she does best: eliminate any signs of life.
Bug bite from the heracross actually kind of hurt, so we take a turn to use recover before onshotting this Steelix with a surf. Never change, Trel.
two thunderbolts take care of this skarm, but it does get off a toxic which is annoying.
and then Jasmine sends out Bronzong to tempt me with what might have been.
We switch to Jean, who yawns it and then takes it out with a couple of surfs.
Fairly tough battle, but not too bad all things considered. I'm really surprised and impressed with how well this psychic attempt is going. Dare I say it, I think we've picked up enough momentum to go all the way!
And that's that for this update!! Apologies for such a long post - do you guys like the long posts with two gym leaders, or prefer them to be shorter? let me know!! Thanks for reading!!
