Peugeot has produced a string of very safe cars recently, and we expect the 2008 to be no different. It certainly comes packed with lots of safety equipment. Reliability isn’t an area for criticism and Peugeot has impressed customers in recent surveys, coming far ahead of fellow French brands Citroen and Renault in our latest owner questionnaire.

Peugeot 2008 reliability

In our latest Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, the pre-facelift Peugeot 2008 came in 53rd out of 75 cars overall, with owners praising its exterior styling and running costs. The brand came in ninth place out of 32 manufacturers, which is an impressive position overall, and a lower-than-average 19% of Peugeot owners reported an issue with their car in the first year.

Safety

Peugeot clearly knows how to build a safe car, but the Euro NCAP tests have continued to get tougher, and when tested in 2019 the entry-level Peugeot 2008 only scored four out of five stars, placing it behind some rivals. With more safety equipment fitted, this was increased to five stars in the same test.

The four-star rating doesn’t make the entry-level 2008 unsafe. Every model has automatic emergency braking (AEB) but it comes with pedestrian detection on the entry-level Active Premium model, with Allure models upwards getting nighttime functionality, and cyclist and pedestrian detection. Higher trim models pile on the safety kit with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane positioning assist, traffic sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring.
