What is PureTech? (1)

The winner of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 International engine of the yearaward in the 1.0-litre to 1.4-litre category, Peugeot’s PureTech is advanced 3-cylinder petrol engine technology that offers a drive and performance normally associated with much bigger engines but with significantly improved fuel consumption and CO2 emissions*.

In other words, a 1.2 PureTech enginegives you the power and performance of a1.6-litre engine, but the efficiency of a smaller engine.

It’s a product of Peugeot’s 100 years of intelligent, innovative engineering and combines reduced weight materials with the efficiency of applying direct fuel injection to three cylinders.

On some versions Peugeot have even added Turbo power, optimising torque at all revs and delivering an engine with a unique personality and one which is ultimately designed to give you maximum driving pleasure and responsiveness, at any speed, for less.

Naturally Aspirated Variants

What is PureTech? (3)

More compact, the PureTech naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25% compared to a 4-cylinder engine with the same power. This means you benefit from a reduction in fuel consumption of approximately 1.5 litres every 62 miles while maintaining optimum driving pleasure.

Versions Available:

  • 1.2L PureTech 82hp (5 speed manual/5 speed Efficient Tronic Gearbox ETG)

Turbocharged Variants

What is PureTech? (4)

The 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is developed from the naturally aspirated version but adds a new generation high-performance turbo offering superb low engine speed torque. The PureTech 3-cylinder turbocharged engine reduces fuel consumption and emissions of CO2by up to 21% compared to the 4 cylinder engine of the same power.

Versions Available:

  • 1.2L PureTech 110hp S&S (5 speed manual)
  • 1.2L PureTech 130hp S&S (6 speed manual/6 speed Efficient Automatic Transmission EAT6)

The benefits of PureTech speak for themselves:

  • Improved acceleration
  • Reduced fuel consumption – meaning fewer visits to the petrol station
  • Lower CO2 emissions – resulting in lower road tax

Why are 3 cylinders better than 4?

  • Increases fuel efficiency (one cylinder less of fuel to burn)
  • Less friction (one fewer cylinder results in a lower surface area, saving fuel)
  • Lighter weight (meaning less fuel has to be burnt to move the vehicle)

In addition to this an aluminium cast-iron-lined block (for quicker engine warm-up), the use of low friction materials and a revised cooling system maximise efficiency, reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.

Engine outputand Driving Experience

PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engines are designed to be compact and efficient whilst delivering big engine drive and performance. Direct fuel injection, light-weight materials and, in some instances, turbocharging combine to deliver power and torque.

The power and performance of PureTech ensures a responsive and enjoyable driving experience, underpinned by the latest technology.
