Volkswagen restyle son best-seller. Le Tiguan 2.0 passe à la version 2.5 et en profite pour arborer un nouveau museau, s'offrir de nouvelle aides à la conduite mais surtout, étoffer sa gamme d'une version hybride rechargeable et d'une sportive déclinaison R de 320 ch. Prix à partir de 34 210 €.

[Mis à jour le 03/03/2021]Fin 2020, Volkswagen a ouvert les commandes de son Tiguan restylé et officialisé ses tarifs. Dans un premier temps, seules les motorisations 100 % thermiques étaient proposées :deux blocs essence 1.5 TSI de 130 et 150 ch, ainsi que deux diesels 2.0 TDI de 150 et 200 ch. Début 2021, elles ont été rejointes par lesversions R et hybride rechargeable... dont L'argus a déjà pris le volant :

Lancé en 2016, le SUV Volkswagen Tiguan de seconde génération arrive à mi-carrière. Il passe donc par la case restylage. Le Volkswagen Tiguan face-lift arrivera en concession sur le marché français début novembre 2020. Mais il faudra attendre la fin de l’année pour les versions Tiguan R et Tiguan eHybrid.

Présent sur tous les continents, le Tiguan est le modèle le plus vendu par Volkswagen. Plus de 900 000 unités ont été écoulées en 2019. Et depuis la première génération, apparue en 2007, le modèle a été produit à 6 millions d’exemplaires.

Le best-seller de VW subit aujourd’hui une opération cosmétique indispensable, laquelle repose sur deux axes majeurs.
Primo, asseoir sa montée en gamme à l’aide de friandises technologiques et, surtout, par le renfort de versions capables de séduire la clientèle tournée vers les SUV premium.

Secundo, mettre le Tiguan en harmonie esthétique avec les nouvelles réalisations de la marque, notamment la Volkswagen Golf 8.


Une calandre de T-Roc, un regard de Golf ?

Les phares du Tiguan 2 phase 2 adoptent une signature lumineuse qui évoque celle de la berline compacte de huitième génération avec, en particulier, un sourcil qui s’étire désormais sur l’aile avant en direction du passage de roue. Le regard est plus expressif tandis que la calandre devient plus imposante et d’étire en « V » vers le bas du bouclier. De cette façon, le Tiguan restylé, singe ces petits frères Volkswagen T-Cross et T-Roc et, dans une moindre mesure, son grand frère Touareg.

Ainsi, l’harmonie de la famille des SUV Volkswagen est assurée. Pour répondre à son premier objectif, asseoir sa montée en gamme, le Tiguan restylé propose, en option, des phares Matrix LED disposant chacun de 24 LED tandis que les clignotants avant et arrière sont à défilement.

Vu de dos, l’évolution est plus discrète avec néanmoins des feux à LED livrés en série et des feux stop de type « clic-clac » caractérisés par un éclairage à motif alternatif qui attire davantage l’attention des conducteurs des véhicules suivants. C’est un plus pour la sécurité. Et dans le détail, le lettrage Tiguan a migré au centre du hayon tandis que le logo 4Motion a été redessiné. Pour en finir avec le hayon, ce dernier bénéficie d’une ouverture mains libres sur les finitions supérieures.

Un habitacle… adapté

Qu’en est-il à bord du Volkswagen Tiguan restylé ? A-t-il adopté un tableau de bord avec un double écran juxtaposé façon Golf 8 ? Ou bien, s’agit-il d’une simple amélioration du mobilier existant ? Pour des raisons de coûts et ne pas avoir à changer les moules du mobilier existant, c’est la seconde solution qui a été retenue. Le conducteur dispose toujours d’une instrumentation numérique sur une dalle de 10 pouces (sur les finitions haut de gamme uniquement) qui est associée à un écran tactile de 6,5 pouces en entrée de gamme et de 9,2 pouces pour les versions les plus huppées. Rien de nouveau à l’horizon, donc !

Il faut toutefois regarder au pied de la console centrale pour voir le changement. Empruntée à la Golf 8, mais pas seulement, puisque les cousines Seat Leon et Skoda Octavia de quatrième génération en sont aussi dotées, la nouvelle interface de climatisation bénéficie d’une commande sensitive. C’est en glissant l’index à gauche ou à droite que l’on peut faire varier la température. Une touche de modernité dont il faudra juger de l’efficacité à l’usage.


Le plein d’aides à la conduite !

Sous le label IQ Drive, le Tiguan restylé offre une conduite semi-autonome. Il dispose, de série dès l’entrée de gamme, duLane Assist et du Front Assist. Autrement dit l’aide au maintien dans la voie et l’alerte anti-collision.En option la panoplie des aides à la conduite (ADAS) est complétée par le Travel Assist, le Predictive ACC, l’emergency assist et le light assist. Des équipements inaugurés par la Volkswagen Passat restylée au printemps 2019 et qui progressivement se déploient sur l’ensemble des modèles du groupe Volkswagen au fil des restylages. Le Cupra Ateca restylé en témoigne également.

Si vous n’êtes pas familier avec tous ces sigles, pas facile de s’y retrouver tant ils se multiplient, voici un lexique.

Le régulateur de vitesse adaptatif prédictif (ACC) repose sur les données GPS et corrige la vitesse en fonction du tracé de la route. La caméra montée à l'avant et la reconnaissance des panneaux de signalisation, adaptent l'allure du véhicule lorsque les limites de vitesse changent.

La conduite semi-automatique (Travel Assist) est mise en œuvre tout simplement en appuyant sur un bouton sur le volant, le conducteur bénéficie alors d’une assistance allant jusqu'à 210 km/h, à condition toutefois de garder au moins une main sur le volant.

Tiguan Hybride : ne m’appelez pas GTE !

Il aura fallu attendre le restylage de la seconde génération du Volkswagen Tiguan pour voir apparaître sa déclinaison hybride rechargeable. Surtout, ne l’appelez pas Tiguan GTE, mais Tiguan eHybrid ! Étonnamment, cette dénomination est l’exacte inverse de celle de la Golf, dont la gamme hybride rechargeable, rappelons-le, propose une variante de 204 ch (Golf eHybrid) et une autre de 245 ch (Golf GTE). C’est ce niveau de puissance, le plus élevé, qui a été retenu pour le Tiguan hybride rechargeable.

Volkswagen a-t-il souhaité harmoniser l’appellation du Tiguan PHEV avec celle de son grand frère Touareg ? Ce dernier se nomme Touareg R eHybrid. Mais cette hypothèse ne tient pas non plus car le Tiguan R - dont on vous parle plus bas - et le Tiguan eHybrid sont deux modèles distincts. Pas facile de s’y retrouver !

Retenez simplement que le Volkswagen Tiguan eHYbrid dispose d’une puissance cumulée de 245 ch, d’une transmission intégrale mécanique 4Motion et qu’il peut rouler en mode électrique durant 50 km au moyen d’une batterie d'une capacité de 13 kWh.

Tiguan R : le vrai Tiguan premium ?

Concernant les versions thermiques, Volkswagen indique la généralisation d’une double catalysation SCR sur les moteurs diesels TDI, ceci afin de réduire significativement les émissions de NOx. Mais le plus marquant, c’est l’arrivée, au sommet de la gamme, de la version R dont le moteur 2.0 TSI revendique 320 ch. Un modèle qui se positionne au-dessus du Cupra Ateca tout juste restylé, lequel ne propose que 300 ch. Mais cela est parfaitement logique, puisque son petit frère, le T-Roc R dispose déjà de 300 ch, le Tiguan R se devait de proposer une poignée d'équidés supplémentaires afin de respecter la hiérarchie.

Ce Tiguan en survêtement se distingue aussi par son kit carrosserie spécifique, ses jantes de 21 pouces (20 pouces maxi pour un Tiguan standard y compris R-Line) et par ses quatre sorties d’échappement. Les mélomanes se précipiteront pour cocher l’option échappement Akrapovic, une ligne optimisée par le spécialiste slovène de la sonorité sportive.

Pour la motricité, la transmission intégrale 4Motion veille au grain et pour la sportivité, une répartition vectorielle du couple, à la fois sur les essieux avant et arrière ainsi que sur les roues gauches et droites dynamisent le comportement routier. Parmi les constructeurs généralistes, Volkswagen est le seul à proposer autant de puissance sur un SUV, le Tiguan R n’aura de rival que chez les premium.


Bilan Volkswagen Tiguan restylé

Gonflé à bloc, le Volkswagen Tiguan de deuxième génération entamera sa seconde partie de carrière avec sérénité. Sa mise à jour esthétique et technologique le met à la page. Devenue indispensable, sa version eHYbrid maintiendra les nombreux rivaux écolos à distance. Et la tonitruante version R élèvera le Tiguan au-dessus de la mêlée généraliste lui donnant accès sans complexe à une concurrence premium.
